How it Works

Certified Composites Technician training is low-cost and can be completed as a self-paced course or with á la carte support and training services developed by ACMA experts and instructors. The CCT program includes materials designed to help candidates pass the CCT exam. Upon enrollment, candidates will be shipped study guides (please allow 2 weeks for delivery) and have access to the online ACMA Education Hub study materials immediately after purchasing.

Candidates have one (1) year from the date of enrollment to take the exam. An additional 30-day grace period will be granted to candidates that contact ACMA within their enrollment period. If a candidate fails to contact ACMA to take their exam within one (1) year of registration, a new enrollment form and payment must be submitted. Study review and training can be done as part of a planned training set up by ACMA or as a self paced study prior to testing.  All tests are online and proctored for certifications. Once shipped study guides have been received and online access to resources are utilized, refunds will not be issued.

Taking the Exam

When ready to sit for the exam, candidates must contact ACMA with the desired exam date and contact information of their proctor (name, job title, company name, email address, and telephone number) at least two (2) weeks before their desired exam date. This will ensure prompt delivery of the necessary proctor code. Proctors are responsible for test security and proper test administration within ACMA's guidelines. The proctor’s information and code will be entered on test day, before the exam will open.

CCT exams are administered in a convenient, online testing format that requires a computer with internet connection and access to ACMA’s Education Hub. All CCT exams consist of 100 multiple choice the passing standard is a minimum score of 80 questions answered correctly, or 80. Two (2) hours are allocated for the exam. While not required, we strongly recommend candidates familiarize themselves with ACMA’s Education Hub prior to sitting for the exam. Exams are closed book: no books, notes, or mobile devices are allowed to be used for testing.

Disclaimer: ACMA does not endorse any particular preparation program or offering. We encourage prospective certification holders to use a variety of resources that reflect their learning styles and needs. Purchasing an enrollment in the certification program includes study guide materials and the exam, but does not guarantee an individual will pass the certification exam. Prerequisite programs for Advanced Composites Certifications include 30+ hours of hands-on practice and experience in composite materials required for certification and do not guarantee individual will pass the certification exam. All exams are computer-based, proctored exams that use the available body of knowledge as the basis for the exams.

How to Recertify

Recertification is required every three (3) years to keep credentials active. The recertification program is an online self-study course designed to reinforce information learned during the initial certification and keep users updated on current trends, skills and technical processes. The course consists of reference materials that are to be read and used to complete an online, open book test. The entire process is completed online in the ACMA Education Hub.

Recertifications are to be completed on or before the CCT expiration date to keep credentials current. If not recertified within 12 months of certification expiration, individuals will be required to enroll as a new candidate, pay a full certification fee, and complete a proctor-administered exam.

Steps to Recertify

  1. Verify the expiration date on the CCT certificate.
  2. Login and carefully select and purchase the CCT recertification program from the recertification program options. Those with current membership should receive the member discounted price.
  3. Once individuals have purchased the recertification program, the workbook and exam will be immediately available in their Education Hub account. Use resources to reference and answer questions 90% is required for recertification.
  4. After reviewing the recertification workbook, open the recertification exam and begin. This exam can be saved and revisited as many times as necessary before submitting for grading. Remember, this is an open book exam and using the workbook and notes as a reference is encouraged. Some candidates print out the recertification workbook as a reference to complete the questions.
  5. Once submitted, the recertification exam will automatically be graded. If passed, a notice will display onscreen allowing users to print a temporary certificate. ACMA will mail a hard copy certificate within 4 weeks of completion. Please be sure the correct mailing address is provided in your MyACMA portal. A score of 90% or above is required to earn recertification.

Setting Up your Proctor

Candidates sitting for their CCT exam must be supervised by a previously identified proctor; substitute proctors will not be allowed. Proctors can be a CCT Instructor, the candidate’s supervisor, or someone in the training or human resources department of their company. Some companies also prefer to use technical school, university or community college test centers to administer certification. These may have additional charge which employers should review and work out prior to getting proctor information to ACMA.

Candidates must provide the name, job title, company name, email address, and telephone number of their proctor at least 2 weeks prior to their intended examination date. To provide this information, email cct@acmanet.org

ACMA will separately provide proctors with all the information they need prior to the exam. Best practice would not have an instructor who just completed giving training immediately proctor certification testing. Impartial test proctors are required.

A proctor is not required for recertification exams.
